Four of our Odyssey of the Mind teams traveled to Ames, Iowa last week for an unforgettable experience representing West Irondequoit at the World Finals. After months of preparation, teamwork and problem-solving, our teams competed alongside students from around the world to share their creative and innovative solutions. Beyond the competition, students enjoyed many of the OM traditions and activities, including working at the New York booth during the Creativity Fair, exploring the international marketplace, and celebrating at the opening and closing ceremonies. Pin trading with teams from all over the world was a highlight for many of our students.

Another proud highlight: The IHS 10th and 11th grade team won the prestigious OMER's Award given in recognition of a team’s outstanding sportsmanship and actions during the tournament. Our students served as exemplary examples through their actions and words as they spread positivity around Iowa State University and connected with other teams! Here’s a special shoutout to that super six of Susan Bondi, Madison Daly, Lillian Gilbert, Bree Hunley, Thora Moore and Everleigh Stoffel.

Our students made memories for a lifetime, and we are incredibly proud of them and their coaches! Here are the final world rankings:

  • Dake 7th graders: 10th place (55 teams in the division)
  • IHS 10th & 11th graders - 12th (27 teams)
  • IHS 9th graders - 13th place (28 teams)
  • Iroquois 4th & 5th graders - 36th (54 teams)
